Building Our Stainless Reputation
Stainless steel is commonly known as a miracle metal, and the reasons why are nearly endless. With close to 50 years of experience, the Douglas Brothers takes pride in producing top quality stainless steel pipe spools, fabricated to last. Our piping systems have become a staple of many industries including wastewater and chemical, but some industries are just beginning to understand the benefits of process systems made from this incredible material. We are often asked what sets a stainless steel pipe apart from those made from other materials. To answer this common query we have compiled the top 3 benefits of using stainless steel piping.
Value & Longevity
We often talk about the value of stainless steel by comparing its cost to that of other alloys and piping materials, but there’s much more to consider. When you pay for stainless steel pipes, you’re paying for a product that you can trust to last decades. Pipes made from other materials are subject to corrosion and temperature damage, resulting in the need for costly maintenance or replacement. Stainless steel has such a long life because of its resistance to natural elements such as temperature, corrosion and UV light.
One of the most compelling reasons why stainless steel is superior to other metals is it’s strength. Stainless steel pipes can be fabricated with pipe walls less than half the thickness of other metal pipes, but just as strong. This means lighter, more durable pipes, and fittings that will stand the test of time and resist corrosion. The strength of stainless steel can be attributed to several factors including its ability to withstand extreme temperatures, pressure, and weight.
Corrosion is the most common type of damage to pipes. Pipes made from steel, iron or concrete are subject to outer wall corrosion from soil and UV light, as well as interior wall erosion aggressive fluids, abrasion and sediment buildup. Unlike all other piping materials, stainless steel doesn’t require a coating or lining. This natural resistance is the secret to the long life and incomparable quality of stainless steel pipes. It’s the chief reason why so many industries are making the switch to stainless steel.
